CFAF Country Notes for Chad

Mahamat-Saleh Haroun’s latest film Lingui tackles the subject of abortion with great compassion and sensitivity. Set in N’Djamena, the capital of Chad, the film is about Amina, a single mother, and her 15-year-old daughter Maria, who is pregnant and needs an abortion. Already facing the stigma of being an unmarried mother, Amina now has the difficult task of seeking an abortion for her daughter in an Islamic African country where the practice is both taboo and illegal. The film is a touching drama that celebrates the close bonds and connections between women. Lingui is Chad’s entry to the 2022 Oscars.
In French and Chadian Arabic with English subtitles.
